- Very large number of FGs and RMs
- Many RMs are considered as FG
- One RM can be used for multiple FG but one FG will use only one RM
- Each FG & RM is defined using unique combination of 10 to 15 specs
- To predict if FG would be available on a particular month, you need to check the stock of FG, corresponding RM, alternative RM and also incoming (via purchases made) RM & alt-RM. Also check the impact of usage of these RM & alt-RM on other FG.
- This complex materials management was done using Excel based spreadsheets
- For each RM there is an alternative RM, which is defined by choosing a combination of specs
- Existing procedure was very time consuming and error prone
- Coordination between customer, sales, operations and purchase was difficult and time consuming
- This was leading to poor customer service levels

- Integrate different data sources (forecast, existing stock (FG & RM), incoming purchase (RM & Alt-RM), Material Masters.
- Build a data model and architect the data mart
- Automate the daily incremental data upload from various data sources to into data mart
- Connect Tableau to data mart to create dashboards
- Publish interactive dashboards on Tableau server to be consumed by all concerned users
